- Listen — tap to hear a native voice say the word.
- Speak — tap the mic once (or press the spacebar) and say the word aloud. Allow microphone access the first time. No need to tap again — listening stops by itself when you pause, and your answer is graded automatically. (Tapping the mic while it's listening finishes early.) For one-syllable words, stretch the sound or say it twice in a row — both count.
- Score — green clear: 100 points, +50 if you said it before pressing Listen · yellow close: 50 · a miss gets one free retry, the second costs one of your 3 ❤.
- Climb — ten words a round; every two rounds the next HSK level joins. Four clear in a row raises your combo (up to ×5), and the level multiplies it all (×1 Beginner → ×4 Expert). Expert hides the pinyin until you answer.

Production, not recognition
