HSK 3.0 level checker
Paste the words you studied for HSK 2.0, or any Chinese text, and see where each word sits in HSK 3.0: the same level, moved up, moved down, new, or not in the new syllabus at all. Characters on the new handwriting list are marked with their level. Or use My level, new list to turn the words you are missing into a review deck. Not sure which exam to take? Read Old or new exam?
Free self-study material — not an official HSK study guide. Using this site or its learning material does not guarantee that you will pass any exam. marks a character on the HSK 3.0 handwriting list, with the level it is listed at. Meanings marked † are from CC-CEDICT (CC BY-SA 4.0); the rest are from our own dictionary.
My level, new list
Pick the HSK 2.0 level you studied and the HSK 3.0 level you are aiming for. You get the words you are missing as review cards: every word up to that new level that was not on the old lists you learned, minus anything already in your deck. Words come in level order, then in the syllabus's own order.
Cards go into your own review deck in this browser, like every [+ deck] button on the site. Each batch can be undone; undoing removes only the cards from that batch you have not reviewed yet. With an exam date, the batch is split into weekly targets and kept in this browser too.
What the statuses mean
- Same level: the word is at the same level in both standards.
- Moved up: HSK 3.0 lists it at a higher level, so you meet it later.
- Moved down: HSK 3.0 lists it at a lower level, so you need it sooner.
- New in HSK 3.0: the word was not on the HSK 2.0 lists.
- Not in new syllabus: it was on the HSK 2.0 lists and is not on the HSK 3.0 word list.
- Not on any list: neither standard lists it. It may still be a common word.
Levels 7–9 share one list in the syllabus, so the checker shows them as one level. The levels compare 4,995 HSK 2.0 words with 10,896 HSK 3.0 words, read from the official HSK 3.0 syllabus and the HSK 2.0 lists. See what changed by level and the handwriting list.
Text is split into words by the rule our HSK analyzer uses: the longest run of characters that is a word, here a word on either list. A word on neither list is checked one character at a time.
Questions people ask
Should I study the old list or the new one?
That depends on which exam you will sit. Old or new exam? sets out the dates, and dates and deadlines lists the registration cut-offs.
Are the words I add saved anywhere?
Only in your own browser, in the same review deck as every other [+ deck] button on the site. Review them on your review page. A share link keeps the words after the # in the address, a part a browser never sends to a website.
