Practise 24 words with a matching picture on every card. Picture your own Chinese lesson: name the people in the room, three things on your desk and what you do when you know an answer. Try saying each word before checking the pinyin. Save unfamiliar words, use New shuffle for another recall round, then use them in the classroom phrases a teacher and student say every lesson. The words are as useful to an adult in an evening class as to a student at school.

Six people and places, nine school supplies, five things that happen in class and four subjects make this 24-card selection. A classroom is drawn from the back, with rows of desks facing the board; the blackboard card is the board on its own. The teacher points at the board, a student writes at a desk, and two classmates share a book. The dictionary is the thick book with coloured tabs and a magnifying glass; the eraser card's dictionary meaning is rubber, the British word for an eraser. Homework is an open notebook at night, revising is notes highlighted and gone over again, and class is over when the bell rings and a student heads out of the door. Each subject is shown by the thing a class in it is most often pictured with: arithmetic signs, a flask, an old scroll and an hourglass, and a paint palette. A desk and a schoolbag are not included because neither of this site's dictionary sources has an entry for them; reading, writing, listening and asking are practised in the Everyday Verbs deck.
