About this deck

Practise 24 words with a matching picture on every card. Imagine a shopping trip: say where you would go for groceries, what you would pay with and whether the price is expensive or cheap. Try saying each word before checking the pinyin. Save unfamiliar words, use New shuffle for another recall round, and continue to the shopping and bargaining phrases to use the vocabulary in a real transaction.

Five places, five in-shop words, eight money words and six paying and price words make this 24-card selection. A striped awning marks a shop front; full shelves mark a supermarket; open stalls mark a market; a building of many shops with an escalator marks a shopping centre. A person carrying several bags represents shopping itself, and a single paper bag is the shopping-bag card. Money shows notes and coins together, cash shows notes held in a hand, small change spills from a coin purse, and the bank-note card shows one note. Red notes with a star are a memory cue for renminbi, not a copy of a real banknote. A card held to a terminal represents payment. A tall stack of coins with an upward arrow represents expensive, one coin with a downward arrow represents cheap, and scissors cutting a price tag represent giving a discount. Number words are practised in the Numbers deck; bargaining sentences are on the shopping phrase page.

Think you know them? The Chinese Picture Quiz says a word and shows it in characters, and you tap its picture — these cards mixed with every other picture deck.
