About this deck

Practise 24 words with a matching picture on every card. Sort the cards into what you love, what you would like to try and what you have never done, then say your top three in Chinese. Try saying each word before checking the pinyin. Save the ones you would actually talk about, use New shuffle for another recall round, and read the weekend story to see hobbies used in sentences.

Six ball sports, six ways of moving and getting outdoors, six music and art activities and six games and quiet pastimes make this 24-card selection. Each ball sport is its ball with the net, hoop, goal or racket that goes with it, so table tennis, tennis and badminton are told apart by the paddle, the racket and the shuttlecock. Chinese chess shows round pieces on a board divided by a river; Go shows black and white stones on a grid; the pieces carry no characters. The game card is a generic controller, not any company's design. Tai chi's sourced meaning lists its several English spellings. Swimming is already practised in the Everyday Verbs deck and calligraphy in the Colours deck, so neither is repeated here; places such as the gym and the stadium are in the Places Around Town deck.

Think you know them? The Chinese Picture Quiz says a word and shows it in characters, and you tap its picture — these cards mixed with every other picture deck.
