About this deck

Practise 24 words with a matching picture on every card. Picture your daily journey: name how you would get to work, where you would wait and what you would need to ride. Try saying each word before checking the pinyin. Save unfamiliar words, use New shuffle for another recall round, and continue to the taxi or high-speed rail and metro phrases to use the vocabulary on a real trip.

Ten vehicles, five stations and stops, four road words and five riding and driving words make this 24-card selection. The taxi is the yellow car with a chequered roof sign; the subway is a train inside a tunnel under the ground; the ordinary car has no sign. A bus-stop shelter with a round sign represents the station card, whose dictionary sense is a bus station; a building with a clock above the rails is the train station, and a person standing beside a waiting carriage is the platform. A road with two trees is a street; a wide road with several lanes and a green sign board is a highway; rows of cars packed together are a traffic jam. The driver wears a cap at the wheel, while the steering wheel seen from the seat, with the road ahead, represents driving a car. Words for left, right and other directions belong in their own deck; travel sentences are on the phrase pages.

Think you know them? The Chinese Picture Quiz says a word and shows it in characters, and you tap its picture — these cards mixed with every other picture deck.
