About this deck
Practise 25 words with a matching picture on every card. Name the place, person or language before checking the pinyin. The larger country outline is the place cue; a pair of people changes the focus to nationality. On language cards, look at the greeting inside the speech bubble and recall the Chinese name of that language. The greeting is a memory cue; the Chinese word below the picture is the vocabulary you are practising. Sort the cards into the three groups, use New shuffle for another recall round and save confusing words for Review. Continue to the introduction guide or Jobs & Work to practise other words useful when meeting someone.
Twelve countries, six nationality terms and seven languages make this small 25-card introduction set, with countries in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. The England outline shows England within the United Kingdom. Country cards pair a large mainland or main-island outline with a small north-up world locator; small islands and distant territories are omitted at this picture scale. Nationality cards pair the outline with the same two neutral figures. Language cards show a greeting in its own script above a group of people talking. They contain no map or flag: languages travel across borders and are spoken by people of many nationalities. The Chinese-language card uses a Mandarin greeting. These greetings are examples, may be shared by other languages and do not represent every variety or greeting custom. The Chinese names, pinyin and meanings identify the words to learn; the introduction guide and existing phrase decks supply longer expressions.
