About this deck

Practise 24 words with a matching picture on every card. Say today's day and month in Chinese, then the day of your next lesson. Notice the pattern: weekdays are 星期 plus a number and months are a number plus 月, so the Numbers deck does most of the work. Try saying each word before checking the pinyin, save unfamiliar words, use New shuffle for another recall round, and continue to the guide to days, months and telling time.

Seven weekdays, twelve months and five words for days and times of day make this 24-card selection. The weekday strip starts on Monday, as Chinese calendars do: the raised day carries as many dots as the number in its name, and Sunday shows a sun because 星期日 ends in 日, sun, rather than a number; 星期天 is the other common word for Sunday. Each month is one square of a twelve-square calendar, read left to right and top to bottom, coloured by its northern-hemisphere season, the half of the world China is in (blue winter, green spring, yellow summer, orange autumn). Of three day pages, a pin marks today, an arrow forward marks tomorrow and an arrow back marks yesterday. A rising sun beside a nine o'clock clock is morning, and a moon beside a seven o'clock clock is evening. Numbers and dates are explained in full in the linked guides.

Think you know them? The Chinese Picture Quiz says a word and shows it in characters, and you tap its picture — these cards mixed with every other picture deck.
